Firhad Hakim

TMC | Kolkata Port | পশ্চিমবঙ্গ
অপেক্ষারত

Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim is seeking re-election for the fourth term from the prestigious Kolkata Port Assembly constituency.

He is locked in a high-stakes contest against BJP candidate Rakesh Singh.

A close aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Hakim has turned Kolkata Port into a TMC stronghold, holding the seat continuously since 2011. In the 2021 Assembly elections, he secured a landslide victory, polling over 1 lakh votes and commanding a dominant 69% vote share. His winning margin of more than 68,000 votes over his nearest rival cemented the constituency’s reputation as one of the safest seats for the Trinamool Congress in the city.

However, the political landscape ahead of the 2026 elections appears to be shifting. The entry of aggressive opposition candidates, along with a consolidated challenge from the Left-Congress alliance, has intensified the contest. The opposition is aiming to capitalise on local urban issues and any signs of anti-incumbency.

The constituency’s electorate has also undergone changes, with the voter roll shrinking to around 1.75 lakh following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Muslims form a significant portion of the electorate, alongside a sizeable population living in slum areas. Hindu voters, too, remain a crucial factor in determining the outcome.

Hakim began his political career as a councillor in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation in the late 1990s. He rose to prominence with a by-election win from Alipore in 2009. His ascent continued after the Trinamool Congress came to power in 2011, when he won from Kolkata Port and was inducted into the state cabinet.

Candidate Info: Firhad Hakim is the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate contesting from Kolkata Port (General) Assembly constituency for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. This male candidate is 67 years of age, according to the election affidavit submitted to the Election Commission of India.
