Chandrima Bhattacharya

TMC | Dum Dum Uttar | পশ্চিমবঙ্গ
অপেক্ষারত

Chandrima Bhattacharya is contesting from the Dum Dum Uttar Assembly constituency in the 2026 West Bengal elections, as the Trinamool Congress once again backs her for the high-profile Kolkata-area seat.

A senior leader in the party and a close associate of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bhattacharya currently holds multiple key portfolios in the state cabinet, including urban development and municipal affairs, health and family welfare, and land and land reforms.

Bhattacharya, 71, began her career as a lawyer after completing her B.Com and LLB from Calcutta University, enrolling with the West Bengal Bar Council in 1978. She practised at the Calcutta High Court for over three decades before entering full-time politics. Initially associated with the Congress, she held organisational roles at the district and national levels before leaving the party in 2008. She later joined the Trinamool Congress in 2009, rising quickly within its ranks and taking on leadership roles, including heading the party’s women’s wing and its legal cell in the state.

Her political journey in Dum Dum Uttar has seen both setbacks and comebacks. She first won the seat in 2011, lost it in 2016 to the Left, and then regained it in 2021, re-establishing her presence in the constituency. She also secured a bypoll victory from Kanthi Dakshin in 2017, further strengthening her electoral credentials.

In the 2026 contest, Bhattacharya faces a multi-cornered fight, with the BJP fielding Saurav Sikdar and the Left nominating Dipsita Dhar. With administrative experience and a long political career behind her, she remains one of the Trinamool Congress’s prominent faces in the region.

Candidate Info: Chandrima Bhattacharya is the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate contesting from Dum Dum Uttar (General) Assembly constituency for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. This female candidate is 71 years of age, according to the election affidavit submitted to the Election Commission of India.
